The Bishop Wilton Community Benefit Trust was established on 1 September 2022 to support projects that benefit the residents of the Parish of Bishop Wilton.

Applications are welcome from charities, community groups, small organisations and individuals, provided the project benefits parish residents.

Projects We Have Supported

Since its establishment, the Trust has received £11,114.00 in donations, mainly from the Bishop Wilton Community Shop and Halifax Estates, and has awarded £7,827.50 across 13 grants.

Funded projects include:

  • Installation of a second defibrillator in the village
  • Personal trainer sessions for all age groups using the outdoor gym equipment, with a focus on older and less able-bodied residents

  • Junior training for the Table Tennis group

  • Marketing support for the local school to increase pupil numbers

  • Lightning conductor servicing at St Edith’s Church

  • Bird boxes installed around the village

  • Training support for the local craft group

  • Asbestos survey at St Edith’s

  • Toys for the Mother and Toddler Group

Governance

The Trust meets twice a year to consider grant applications and is overseen by four Trustees:

  • Martin Butcher and Simon Laycock, nominated by the Community Shop

  • David Lord, nominated by Halifax Estates (current Chair)

  • Ingrid Haywood, nominated by the Parish Council
